Hank arrives at Jesse's house furious about the false emergency call that drew him away from the RV. He beats Jesse unconscious, then stands stunned by what he has done. In hospital, Jesse threatens legal action and tells Walt he will give him up if he is arrested again. Skyler asks Walt to find a way to protect Hank, but Jesse has little reason to trust either of them. Walt deliberately undermines his working relationship with Gale and persuades Gus to let Jesse replace him. Jesse initially rejects the offer, recalling how Walt has treated him, before eventually agreeing to return as his partner.
Hank admits the assault to his superiors and is suspended, surrendering his gun. Although Jesse subsequently drops the charges, Hank's immediate danger comes from a different direction. The Salamanca cousins are preparing to kill him. An anonymous caller warns Hank that he has one minute before an attack, leaving him uncertain whether the threat is real until the men appear in the car park. He reverses into Leonel and takes his weapon, but Marco shoots Hank and leaves him badly wounded. Marco then delays finishing him to retrieve an axe. Hank uses that brief opening to load a fallen round and shoot Marco before the blow lands. He collapses, alive but bleeding heavily.
