Half Measures

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

Jesse discovers that the dealers who used Tomás to kill Combo are selling Gus's meth. He wants revenge and asks Walt to help poison them, but Walt refuses. Jesse says he will act anyway. Walt and Saul consider arranging a temporary arrest to keep Jesse out of trouble, only for Mike to warn that Gus would object. Mike recalls a domestic-abuse case from his police career, explaining how sparing a violent husband allowed him to kill his wife later. He presents the story as a warning against stopping short when a threat must be dealt with.

Mike and Victor bring Jesse to a meeting with Gus, Walt and the dealers. Gus orders the men to stop using children, and Jesse reluctantly accepts a truce. It does not last. Tomás is found dead, and Jesse believes the dealers killed him once he was no longer useful. Jesse returns to meth and heads towards the men with a gun. Walt learns about the boy's death from a television report and leaves his family dinner. As Jesse approaches the armed dealers, Walt drives into them, killing one and injuring the other. He gets out, takes the surviving man's gun and shoots him. Jesse is left staring at Walt, who tells him to run. The negotiated peace has ended with Walt killing two men employed by Gus.
