Walter and Jesse begin by cleaning the remains that fell through Jesse's ceiling, but their captive is still waiting downstairs. An argument over Jesse's drug use and his disclosure of Walt's personal details leaves Walt alone to decide what happens to Krazy-8. Meanwhile, Skyler's questions about marijuana cause Marie to suspect Walter Jr. of smoking it. Hank takes the teenager to a motel for an intimidating lesson about drug use, following a misunderstanding that keeps the family's attention away from Walt. Skyler also discovers that Walt's claim to be working late at the car wash cannot be true: he has already quit the job.
In the basement, Walt lists reasons for and against killing Krazy-8 and struggles to treat the decision as something he can reason through. A coughing fit makes him collapse while carrying a sandwich, breaking the plate. After waking, he admits that he has cancer and talks with Krazy-8 until releasing him seems possible. That changes when Walt pieces the broken plate together and notices a missing shard. He realises his prisoner has concealed a weapon. When confronted, Krazy-8 attacks, and Walt kills him with the bicycle lock. Hank's investigation separately reaches the desert cooking site and the abandoned equipment. Walt finally returns to Skyler and says that he has something to tell her, with the killing still hidden from his family.
