Jack Bauer and Renee Walker wait for Vladimir Laitanan to find a seller for their supposed uranium purchase. His calls produce denials, and he decides to keep the advance payment rather than pursue the deal. Renee pushes him to try again. When he attacks her, she repeatedly stabs him. Jack rushes to restrain her and is stabbed as well. He survives, but Vladimir is dead and the operation has lost its immediate contact.
Jack tells Hastings that Renee was defending herself and proposes searching Vladimir's calls, files and computer for another lead. Renee believes she has ruined everything, and Jack tries to reassure her that she can still rebuild her life. Elsewhere, Dana guides Kevin and Nick through the police warehouse. They find the money but stay to steal more property, encounter a patrol officer, and beat him before escaping despite her attempts to manage their exit.
Taylor tells the British representative about the nuclear threat while Hassan presses his own people for information and grows suspicious of Tarin, who is involved with Kayla. At Vladimir's premises, Russian gunmen arrive before CTU. Jack hides Renee and lets himself be captured, hoping CTU can follow him to the uranium. The men take him through an underground route. When Cole's team arrives, Renee explains the plan, but the aerial surveillance has seen no departure.
