Spoilers for this episode.
Beresch holds Jack beside the airport hostages and forces him to redirect CTU's rescue team into an ambush. Jack appears to cooperate because Derek's life is being threatened, but repeatedly describes his position as flank two. At CTU, newly arrived supervisor Lynn McGill takes command and questions the change in the assault plan. His review of Jack's calls uncovers the old duress code before Curtis leads his team into the trap.
The rescue switches back to its original approach as Logan and Suvarov proceed with signing their treaty. CTU breaks into the terminal from behind the waiting gunmen. Jack frees himself and takes a weapon, but cannot keep Beresch alive for questioning: the terrorist detonates a fallen man's vest. Derek survives and rejoins Diane. Jack notices that a supposed hostage wearing a yellow tie has disappeared after receiving a keycard from Beresch.
Saving the terminal does not settle the investigation into Palmer's murder. McGill orders Jack brought back for questioning because the footage placing him near the assassination still needs explaining. Elsewhere at the airport, the missing man uses the keycard to help remove canisters from an underground storage area. At the retreat, Martha tries to show Logan her transcript. Cummings reaches her first, renders her unconscious with chloroform and takes the document.
