Day 2: 6:00 A.M. - 7:00 A.M.

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

Jack pursues Hewitt onto the roof despite recurring chest pain from his torture. Hewitt raises a gun, and Jack shoots him in the leg. The programmer falls and suffers a serious head injury. Jack keeps him alive while waiting for the helicopter, but CTU recalls it after Division discovers Chappelle's detention. Hewitt dies before he can be brought in to demonstrate the forgery, leaving Jack without the witness he hoped would stop the attack.

Jack returns to the loft and treats Sherry's stab wound. He needs her to draw Kingsley into a meeting by offering Hewitt, whose death Kingsley does not know about. Michelle remotely helps Jack use Hewitt's voice software before agents arrest her. Tony has already been detained. Sherry calls Kingsley and plays a fabricated reply in Hewitt's voice, persuading him to arrange a meeting. As Jack drives there, another attack of chest pain causes him to lose control.

Palmer's lawyer Brian Jacobs investigates Kingsley while Novick reluctantly permits access to intelligence information. Prescott also needs Palmer to speak to Turkey's Prime Minister so American bombers can cross the country's airspace. Palmer agrees to protect the crews despite opposing their mission. Kate reaches the Matheson house, where Kim initially points a gun at her. After Kate proves Jack sent her, Kim accepts the help and leaves with her for CTU, asking about her father's relationship with Kate.
