Jack finds a concealed passage in the mosque and captures Syed Ali before he can swallow cyanide. Kate identifies him, while CTU examines a burnt paper fragment recovered during the search. A telephone number from Ali's phone leads to Marie. Kate calls her sister with Jack's team tracing the connection, but Marie realizes she has been exposed, admits killing Reza and the escorts, then throws away her phone. The trace narrows her location without yet putting her in custody.
Ali refuses to reveal the bomb's location even when Jack shows a live feed of his family being held overseas. Palmer rejects Jack's request to have the family killed one by one and directly orders him to stop. Jack pretends the call authorized the threat and continues the interrogation. The video appears to show Ali's eldest son being shot. Ali still refuses at first, but breaks when Jack prepares to order the killing of his other son as well.
Ali identifies Norton Airfield and says the plan is to fly the bomb over downtown Los Angeles. CTU interprets the recovered characters as part of a possible aircraft registration and sends teams to the airfield. Jack reconnects the family video for Kate, revealing that the execution was staged and everyone is alive. Elsewhere, a man offers to help Kim out of the forest, and Lynne confronts Sherry about Stanton. At Norton, Marie delivers the trigger to Omar, who installs it in the bomb.
