Jack returns to CTU and keeps Nina occupied while Jamey checks her workstation. The key card came from Nina's terminal, and Jack confronts her about helping the people targeting Palmer. Nina denies it. When Jamey identifies when the files were accessed, Jack remembers that he and Nina were away together in Santa Barbara. He apologises and concludes that someone else could have used her computer. Tony, learning of Walsh's death and watching Jack with growing concern, asks headquarters to intervene.

Palmer meets Carl in a parking garage and explains Maureen Kingsley's allegation. She claims Keith killed Lyle Gibson, the man who raped Nicole, rather than Gibson dying by suicide. Palmer believes the accusation is false and wants its source stopped. At Gaines's house, Mandy tries to persuade Bridgit to abandon her demand for extra payment. Gaines eventually agrees to the larger sum, and they retrieve Belkin's identification from the desert. Once Bridgit hands it over, Jonathan shoots her.

Kim helps the injured Janet escape while Dan and Rick are distracted. The girls run through alleys and a warehouse, encountering Larry Rogow, who first hides their direction from the pursuers and later helps them take another man's phone. Kim finally tells Teri they are in danger and gives her their location. Teri calls emergency services and heads toward them with Alan. During another attempt to outrun the kidnappers, Janet is struck by a car. Rick recaptures Kim, and the men leave Janet in the road. Her eyes open after they drive away.
