Build the Rig Around Implants and Drones

On this page

The publisher lists the character-building pieces together: an expanded arsenal of weapons, armours, abilities, implants and drones. Those choices decide how your rig survives Jericho City.

Implants decide how the rig behaves

A comparison of The Surge 2 implant builds against drone use, showing implants shaping rig behaviour and the drone adding an extra attack.
Implants define the rig; the drone adds a move. Open the full image.

Implants are described as part of rich character progression and customization rather than a side system. They are where your stamina, defence and utility plan lives, so a limb-looted armour set that fights your implants wastes both.

The drone adds an action, not a style

The drone is listed next to weapons and abilities as one more thing you can bring to a fight. It is most valuable when a boss dictates the pace, because it lets you keep applying pressure during the windows where your own weapon cannot reach.

Fit the three pieces together

Weapon, armour and implant are described as one set, and the drone extends it. Before upgrading anything, check that the new piece does not contradict your plan: the store’s own framing is brutal, unforgiving combat, which leaves little room for a rig pulling in two directions.

Gear starts with the limb you cut, so read cutting the limb you actually want first. Then plan the district with Jericho City’s three threats.
