Build Any Character You Can Name
On this page
Oblivion’s character system is described in the plainest terms available: choose the noble warrior, the sinister assassin, the wizened sorcerer or the scrappy blacksmith, then forge your path and play the way you want.
Four named people, one question
The store names four very different characters and then hands the decision back to you. Reading that list as a set of pictures rather than fixed classes is the fastest way in, because it puts the emphasis on who the character is instead of on a tier list you would have to go and look up.
Swordcraft or magic
The adventure is framed around mastering swordcraft and wielding powerful magic to save Tamriel from the Daedric invasion. Whichever name you pick, those are the two capabilities the store highlights, so a build that leans hard into one of them has a clear identity from the first hour.
Play the way you want is the instruction
Because the phrasing is deliberately open, there is nothing to test your choice against and no wrong answer waiting. The useful check is whether the character you described out loud still sounds like the one you would enjoy ten hours in, which is a better guide than any ranking.
What the release itself changes is covered in what a remaster actually changes, and where to take that character next is covered in exploring Cyrodiil before the gates open.
