Fund the War Before You Start It
On this page
Bannerlord is described as a medieval sandbox where you explore, raid and conquer while engaging in politics, trading, crafting weapons and managing your fiefdom. Every one of those is either a cost or a source of money.
Trade is a route, not a grind
Trading works best on roads you already travel between the places you care about. Because the sandbox is described as vast and never the same twice, the useful habit is learning a handful of reliable routes rather than chasing a rumoured price across the map.
Crafting turns materials into equipment
Weapon crafting is named alongside trade and politics as one of the systems you engage with. Crafting what your own troops use saves the purchase twice over: you avoid the merchant’s price and you keep a supply of gear that matches the army you actually field.
A fief pays while you are elsewhere
Fiefdom management is part of establishing your clan among the nobility, and it is the one income that keeps working during a campaign. Treat a fief as the thing that decides how long you can stay in the field, because armies cost money every day they exist.
Declare war on your own terms
The publisher frames the game around establishing hegemony and creating a new world from the ashes of the old. That outcome is paid for in advance: the clan that can fund three months of campaigning is the clan that gets to choose when it stops.
Spend the money on a structure rather than a crowd: companions into a command structure. And keep the personal skill current in one combat style.
