Yours Truly

Abby Jimenez's Yours Truly, published in 2023, is set in a hospital practice. Dr Briana Ortiz is having a bad year: her divorce is just about final, her brother is still waiting for a kidney donor and time is short, and the promotion she has been working towards looks set to go to the new male doctor at the practice, who is already registering very high on her personal scale of annoyances.

Jacob Maddox does not make a good first impression, which is what makes the letter he sends her afterwards so surprising. It is thoughtful and funny and nothing like the man she met, and the two of them begin writing to each other rather than talking. Before long they are sharing lunch dates in the corner of her office that she calls her sob closet and discussing subjects as unlikely as the merits of freakishly tiny horses, and the correspondence becomes the most honest part of both of their weeks, which is a problem in an office where everything else is conducted face to face.

Yours Truly was published in 2023, and it places its central relationship inside a working hospital.
