"Y" Is for Yesterday
A decade after a sexual assault at an elite private school, and after the tape of it went missing and a classmate was murdered, one of the young men involved is released from prison and the case comes back to life.
About
"Y" Is for Yesterday is a mystery novel by the American writer Sue Grafton, published in the United States on 22 August 2017. It is the twenty-fifth and final book of the Alphabet series, because Grafton died before she could write the one for Z.
Kinsey Millhone is the private detective who narrates the series, and she works out of the invented city of Santa Teresa, California. In this book she is pulled into a case that is a decade old.
The case begins in 1979, when four boys from a private high school sexually assault a classmate and film it. When the tape goes missing, the classmate suspected of taking it is murdered, and one of the boys turns state's evidence in the investigation that follows.
Kinsey takes the case up years later, when one of the men involved is released from prison and the question of what happened to the tape comes back with him. The novel is set in 1989, and it is the darkest of the reports in her files.
