Woken Furies
Takeshi Kovacs comes home to the planet where he was born, in a body that is not his own, with a religious movement hunting him after a series of attacks.
About
Woken Furies is a 2005 science fiction novel by the British writer Richard K. Morgan, published by Gollancz. It is the third book about Takeshi Kovacs and the sequel to Broken Angels.
The series is set in a future where a person's consciousness is held in a cortical stack that can be moved between bodies, called sleeves, so that death is normally a delay rather than an ending. Kovacs returns to Harlan's World in a new sleeve, with the Knights of the New Revelation pursuing him after his attacks on their movement, and finds the planet's politics waiting for him. The book fills in his earlier history, describing what he did as an envoy before the events of the first two novels and how the world he grew up in shaped what he became.
Morgan has said in interviews that this could be the last Kovacs novel, and the book is as concerned with the history of Harlan's World and the character's own beginnings as it is with the case in front of him.
