About
When Love Flies By is a contemporary romance by the American writer Jeanne Allan, published in 1987. It appeared in the Harlequin Romance line, one of the publisher's short category series.
Lindsey has to fly to Germany because her brother's wife has just given birth to twins, and the trip forces her to deal with her memories of her father's death, which she has been trying not to think about. On the flight she is seated beside Cole Farrel, a strong and sensitive man who keeps her from falling apart before they land, and who admires her for meeting her fear of flying head-on rather than avoiding it. By the time the journey is over, Lindsey's feelings for him are not simple, and the problem is not Cole himself but what he does for a living: he is a pilot, as her father was, and her fear of losing somebody the same way is the obstacle between them. The novel sets a practical journey against an emotional one and lets the second take longer.
Allan wrote category romances in the 1980s, and the aeroplane and the fear of flying are the devices this book uses to bring its two characters together.
