Weather Girl
Ari Abrams is a television meteorologist in Seattle who loves the weather and nearly everything else about the job except the person running the newsroom.
About
Rachel Lynn Solomon's Weather Girl, published in 2022, is set in a Seattle television newsroom. Ari Abrams has always been interested in weather and enjoys nearly all of her work as a television meteorologist, but the person running her newsroom, Seattle's celebrated forecaster Torrance Hale, has no time to mentor her: she is absorbed in her stormy on-again, off-again relationship with the station's news director, who is also her ex-husband. Ari runs on sunshine and optimism, and by the time of the station's holiday party she is at her wits' end about it.
The one colleague who seems to understand her is Russell Barringer, a reserved and good-natured sports reporter. After the station's holiday party goes badly, the two of them agree to work together on getting their bosses back into a relationship, using anonymous gifts and arranged double dates to push the pair towards each other. The meddling brings consequences neither of them intended, because working closely with Russell means letting him see sides of her that Ari keeps hidden from everyone else.
Weather Girl was published in 2022, and Solomon's other Seattle novel, The Ex Talk, shares the same fictional newsroom world. Solomon is from Seattle and worked in her early adulthood at the public radio station KUOW-FM.
