Warrior's Heart
Rider is a half-breed Shoshoni wanted for murder among his own people, and his only interest is in staying alive.
About
Warrior's Heart is a historical romance by the American writer Georgina Gentry, published in 2001. It belongs to the tradition of frontier romances in which the crossing of the American west is as much a character as the people making it.
Rider is caught between two communities and belongs to neither. He is wanted among the Shoshoni for a killing he does not accept as just, and he is treated with suspicion by the settlers, and his plan is to survive without attaching himself to anybody.
Emma Trent has spent her savings on a place in a wagon train travelling to Oregon and is thrown off it by people who do not want her. The arrangement Rider proposes is a hard bargain, and both of them enter it with different expectations: he intends a temporary arrangement and she intends to reach Oregon, and neither of them accounts for the crossing itself. The novel follows the train across difficult country, and the relationship at its centre changes with the ground under it.
