Up Close and Dangerous
Bailey Wingate's husband dies and leaves her in control of the family fortune, to the fury of his adult children.
About
Up Close and Dangerous is a novel by the American writer Linda Howard, published in 2007.
Bailey inherits a great deal of money and a set of stepchildren who believe it should have been theirs, and the novel gives her a year of lawsuits and threats before the plane goes down. Cam Justice is the pilot, a Texan with a business to run and no particular reason to be flying her, and after the crash the two of them have to get out of the mountains with almost nothing. The survival sections are practical: shelter, water, injuries and the distance to anywhere. Howard then turns the book into an investigation, because the engine did not fail by itself, and the two of them have to work out who arranged the flight before whoever it was has another chance.
It is one of the author's romantic suspense novels, and it appeared in a long series of them published at about one a year for more than two decades, most of them with a woman in danger and a man she does not trust.
