Untouched
Grace Paget is kidnapped and taken to a remote country house, where she is told that she is to give the man holding her whatever he asks for, or die.
About
Untouched is a historical romance by the Australian writer Anna Campbell, published in 2007 and her first novel.
Grace Paget is abducted and taken to a house in the English countryside, where the terms she is given are simple and horrifying: she is to do as she is told or she will be killed. She refuses to accept them and starts looking for a way out, and the difficulty is that the man keeping her is not the person who arranged for her to be brought there. The book is a gothic romance in the tradition of a woman imprisoned in a great house with a man whose reputation is worse than his behaviour, and the plot turns on what the two of them can work out about the people who set the situation up. Campbell's later novels are also historical romances with an edge of suspense, and this one is where the series of them begins.
The house and the terms of Grace's captivity are as important to the book as the courtship, and it was the author's first novel.
