About
Undercover Nanny is a romance novel by the American writer Wendy Warren, published in 2005 by Silhouette Books.
D. J. Holden was raised in part by the man who runs the detective agency she works for, and the single rule he gave her was that she should never work undercover. The agency's finances force her to break it, and the assignment is to find out what Maxwell Lotorto is doing with his life and his family's money for a grandmother who is paying to know. D. J. presents herself as Daisy June and takes work as a nanny in his household, which is how the investigation and the romance become the same story: the person she is supposed to report on is the person she begins to like, and the grandmother is paying for a version of events that may not be true. Warren writes for the contemporary category lines, so the book is short and the mystery is domestic rather than criminal in scale.
Silhouette's contemporary romances of this period often combined a light investigation with the relationship, and the nanny or housekeeper's position was a standard device for putting a stranger inside a household.
