Ugly Love
Tate Collins moves in with her brother and finds his friend Miles Archer, an airline pilot, asleep in front of the door.
About
Colleen Hoover's Ugly Love, published in 2014, begins when Tate Collins moves in with her brother and finds that his friend Miles Archer, an airline pilot, is unconscious outside her apartment door. There is no love at first sight in it, and the two of them would not even call themselves friends, but they do have an attraction that neither of them is willing to leave alone. Miles does not want love and Tate does not have time for a relationship between her shifts and her studies, so once the attraction is out in the open the two of them settle on an arrangement that suits them both.
The arrangement comes with two rules. Miles will not discuss his past, and Tate is not to expect a future. That set-up holds while she is working and studying, and her shifts and her study keep the arrangement at the edges of her life, which is part of what makes it look workable to her. The novel follows the arrangement alongside the history Miles refuses to talk about, so that the story runs in two timelines and the parts of his life he has kept out of the room begin to matter.
Ugly Love was published in 2014, two years before It Ends with Us.
