Twenties Girl
Lara Lington has always had an overactive imagination, and suddenly it seems to be working overtime, because normal professional women in their twenties do not get visited by ghosts.
About
Twenties Girl is a novel by the British writer Sophie Kinsella, published in 2009. Kinsella is the pen name of Madeleine Wickham, and this was her fourth stand-alone book.
Lara Lington is twenty-seven and has an imagination she has never quite kept in check, so she is not entirely sure what to make of the arrival of the ghost of her great-aunt Sadie, a demanding young woman with firm opinions about fashion, love and the correct way to dance. Sadie is at the funeral of her own much older self when she makes contact, and she has a single request: Lara must find a necklace that belonged to her for more than seventy-five years, because she cannot rest until it is recovered. The two of them begin a partnership that neither expected, and the search for the necklace leads Lara into intrigue and into a new romance as well as into her own family's past. The two women, both in their twenties in their own way, learn a certain amount from one another along the way.
Kinsella writes comic novels about young women in London, and this one gives its heroine a companion from the 1920s as well as a mystery to work out.
