This Woven Kingdom

This Woven Kingdom is the first novel of Tahereh Mafi's series of the same name, published in 2022 by HarperCollins and Farshore. It is a fantasy romance in which the ancient kingdom of the Jinn has been destroyed and its surviving heir is hiding in plain sight among the servants of the court that replaced it, with no one in the household aware of who she is.

Alizeh is a servant, treated as disposable by everyone around her, and that is exactly how she has stayed alive. She is also the last heir of the Jinn kingdom, and the people who destroyed her family would finish the job if they found her. Everything about her position depends on being uninteresting and unmemorable, which is why the attention of the crown prince is both a complication and a threat, since being noticed is the one thing she cannot afford.

Crown Prince Kamran has spent his life hearing prophecies about the death of his king and has never imagined they could involve the strange-eyed girl working in his palace. The one he cannot stop thinking about turns out to be the person his court is most afraid of, and by the time he works out what he has been looking at, the decision is already out of his hands and the court's fear of the Jinn is stronger than his own judgement.

The series continues in These Infinite Threads and All This Twisted Glory. The first novel establishes Alizeh, Kamran, the two courts and the prophecy between them, and it is the opening volume of a story told across three books, with no knowledge of the author's earlier series required.
