The Thursday Murder Club
Four residents of a retirement village meet every Thursday to work through old unsolved murders, until the death of a local developer, found with a photograph beside the body, turns their hobby into a live case.
About
The Thursday Murder Club is a mystery novel by the British writer and broadcaster Richard Osman, published in 2020 and his debut. It is the first book in the Thursday Murder Club series.
Four residents of a retirement village — Elizabeth Best, Ron Ritchie, Ibrahim Arif and Joyce Meadowcroft — meet every Thursday to work through old unsolved murders. Their hobby becomes a live case when a local property developer is found dead, with a photograph lying beside the body.
The club decides to look into the killing themselves, on the grounds that they have nothing but time and the police seem slow, and they are soon trading information with the investigating officers. Then somebody else dies, and the informal inquiry becomes more serious than any of them expected.
Osman sets the story in the fictional village of Fairhaven in Kent, around a retirement community of his own invention, and it was adapted for television later. It is the first of a series.
