The Throne of Fire
Carter and Sadie Kane have spent months training as magicians since the gods of ancient Egypt were released into the modern world, and the task in front of them is to wake the sun god Ra before the chaos serpent can rise.
About
The Throne of Fire is a fantasy adventure novel by Rick Riordan, published in 2011 and the second book of The Kane Chronicles. It continues the story of Carter and Sadie Kane, the fourteen-year-old and twelve-year-old descendants of Egyptian magicians, who narrate alternate chapters of the book.
The plot is a race with a deadline attached: the Kanes have five days to find and wake the sun god Ra, which means locating the three sections of the Book of Ra, which have been scattered and are guarded. The threat is Apophis, the serpent of chaos, whose rise the ritual is meant to prevent, and much of the novel is spent travelling between the mortal world and the underworld.
Riordan writes the series by fitting Egyptian myth into a contemporary adventure, and this volume introduces more of the gods and their households than the first. The narrative device is that the two siblings are recording the account, which allows them to argue with each other's version of events as they go.
