The One

The One is a young adult novel by the American writer Kiera Cass, published in this HarperTeen printing dated 2014 and the third book of The Selection series.

The competition at the centre of the series began with thirty-five girls and is down to four. America is one of them, which is not a position she ever expected to hold, and the friendships and rivalries she has collected along the way now matter as much as the prize does. Maxon is doing the choosing, and America's own feelings about him have changed more than once since she arrived at the palace. The book follows the last stage of the contest, while the danger outside the palace grows more serious and America has to work out what she is willing to lose.

The series blends romance with a dystopian setting. Maxon's choice is the event the whole trilogy has been moving towards, and this is the last volume of it.
