The McCaffertys

The McCaffertys is a romance novel by the American writer Lisa Jackson, published by Silhouette in 2000.

The book is set around the McCafferty family, and its central figure is Randi McCafferty, who has a young son and has never told anybody who the boy's father is. Her brothers, who believe they know what is best for her, employ an investigator, Kurt Striker, to keep Randi and the child safe. They are used to being obeyed and have not considered what Randi's secret would cost her if it were known. Kurt works out fairly quickly that the danger to her is connected to the secret she is keeping, and that the only effective way to remove the threat is to make what she has hidden public. The two of them are then stuck together while she refuses and he insists, and the arrangement turns into something neither of them planned.
