The Last Graduate

The Last Graduate is a fantasy novel by the American writer Naomi Novik, published by Del Rey on 28 September 2021. It is the second book of the Scholomance trilogy.

Galadriel Higgins, who is known as El, is the student at the centre of it. She is half Welsh and half Indian, and she has an enormous and destructive kind of power that she has spent years trying not to use.

The school is the Scholomance, a place of black magic where the pupils are under constant threat from the creatures that get in, and where the thing that matters most is surviving to graduation. El's problem is that the power she has been hiding is the very thing that could protect the people around her.

The first book of the series was A Deadly Education, published in 2020. Although the series was written for adults, this one won the 2022 Lodestar Award, which is given for the best young adult science fiction or fantasy book of the previous year.
