The General's Daughter
A captain in the United States Army, a graduate of West Point and the daughter of a famous general, is found dead on the firing range at the base where she grew up.
About
The General's Daughter is a mystery novel by the American writer Nelson DeMille, published in 1992. It introduces Paul Brenner, who appears in two later novels by the same author.
Captain Ann Campbell is a West Point graduate and the daughter of General Joe Campbell, known throughout the army as Fighting Joe. She is the pride of Fort Hadley until her body is found one morning, naked and bound, on the firing range.
Paul Brenner is a member of the criminal investigation division of the United States Army, working in an undercover unit that deals with the cases the army would rather not have examined in public. He is put in charge of this one.
He works with Cynthia Sunhill, a specialist in rape cases with whom he once had a relationship that ended badly. Together they look into a life that turns out to have had a second side to it that nobody at the base wanted to see, and the book was made into a film in 1999.
