The Fourth Apprentice

The Fourth Apprentice is a children's fantasy novel by Erin Hunter, set among the four warrior Clans that share the country around a lake and written for readers who have followed the series from the beginning.

A prophecy has foretold that three cats of ThunderClan will hold the power of the stars in their paws, and Jayfeather and Lionblaze know that two of those cats are themselves. They are waiting for StarClan to reveal who the third one is. Dovekit and Ivykit, both descended from the old leader Firestar, are meanwhile preparing to take their apprentice names, and one of the sisters has a dream that marks her out as something more than an ordinary Clan cat.

A cruel season then threatens the lives of all four Clans at once, and the promises the young cats make to one another begin to bind them across the divides of family and leadership, at a time when the Clans need allies more than they need pride.
