The Enchanted Castle
Three children are on holiday in the West Country when they find a country estate that looks like a castle out of a fairy tale.
About
The Enchanted Castle is a children's fantasy novel by the English writer Edith Nesbit, first published in 1907.
The book follows three children, Gerald, Cathy and Jimmy, who are exploring the countryside during the school holidays and come upon a large estate that looks from a distance like a castle in a story. In a rose garden at the centre of a maze they find a girl who appears to be a fairy-tale princess asleep, though she is playing a game of her own, and they also find a ring that grants wishes. The ring turns out to be the source of most of the trouble that follows: it makes the wearer invisible at the wrong moments and does not do exactly what it is asked. The rescue the children attempt is funny in places and frightening in others.
