The Countess
Christiana's marriage was short and unpleasant, and when her husband dies she decides not to let the required period of mourning spoil her sisters' first season.
About
The Countess is a historical romance by the Canadian writer Lynsay Sands, published in 2011 and part of her Madison Sisters series.
Christiana Madison married an earl who treated her badly, and when he dies soon afterwards she declines to let the conventions of mourning keep her sisters out of society. Her solution is to preserve the body and behave as though nothing has happened, which holds until a man appears claiming to be the real earl and the twin of the husband she buried, having been dispossessed of his name and title by a brother who was prepared to take everything from him. The two of them then have to work out what can be done about the fact that she is legally the widow of a man who was not who he said he was. Sands writes the series about three sisters, and this is the first of them.
The Madison family appears in three books, and the same marriages, money and sisters are followed across all of them.
