Sword of the North
The Age of Ruin is a time that needs heroes, and the candidates are scattered and in poor condition: a former rebel now serving as an unwilling envoy between the powerful, a half-mage in disgrace whose warnings about a coming war are being ignored, and others who would rather not be involved at all.
About
Sword of the North is a fantasy novel by the English writer Luke Scull, published in 2015.
The book takes place in a world that has been left damaged by an earlier age, and it is told through a handful of people who are not in a position to solve anything: Sasha, once a rebel and now an envoy carrying messages between powers that distrust each other, and Eremul, called the Halfmage, whose warnings about the coming war are not being listened to by anyone with an army. Around them the political arrangements that have kept the peace are coming apart, and the gods and the magic that remain in the world are part of what is coming apart with them. Scull writes in the grim register of modern fantasy, in which the people trying to hold a situation together are usually the ones the situation will cost the most.
The novel continues the story begun in Scull's first book, and the same characters carry on into the third volume.
