Stone Cold
Oliver Stone is an ex-Green Beret and a former CIA-trained assassin who leads the Camel Club, a small group of civilian misfits in Washington.
About
Stone Cold is a crime thriller by the American writer David Baldacci, published by Grand Central Publishing on 6 November 2007. It is the third novel to feature the Camel Club, the group of amateur investigators he introduced in an earlier book.
The club is a small group of civilian misfits in Washington, and it is led by a man who goes by the name Oliver Stone. He is an ex-Green Beret and a former CIA-trained assassin. The people who work with him are not the sort of investigators the authorities take seriously until it is too late, and the club exists because its members have all learned, in different ways, that the official explanation is not always the whole of a matter.
In this book the members are drawn into a case involving intelligence work, casinos, a murder and, behind it all, a secret society with purposes of its own. Baldacci keeps the club's amateur status as its advantage: they can look at a case from outside the institutions that have already decided what it means, and their independence is what makes them useful.
