Sorcerer's Son
A demon sorcerer called Smada Rezhyk asks the sorceress Delivev Ormoru of Castle Spinweb to marry him and is refused, and he convinces himself that she is plotting to bring him down.
About
Sorcerer's Son is a fantasy novel by the American writer Phyllis Eisenstein, first published in 1979. It is the first book of The Book of Elementals.
The demon sorcerer Smada Rezhyk is spurned by the sorceress Lady Delivev Ormoru of Castle Spinweb, and he responds by imagining that she intends to bring him down. He sends his most faithful demon servant, Gildrum, to Spinweb in the form of a knight wounded in battle, with instructions to take refuge there and to get Delivev with child. Rezhyk supplies the demon with his own seed, and calculates that he has about eleven days to prepare his defences before she notices her powers weakening and ends the pregnancy.
What he has not allowed for is that Delivev will refuse to end it, and that Gildrum will fall in love with his master's enemy rather than serve him. The son, Cray Ormoru, grows up and sets out on a journey of his own, and the series continues in the second novel, The Crystal Palace.
