Silver Borne
Mercy Thompson, a mechanic and shapeshifter, tries to return a powerful Fae book she borrowed in desperation and finds the bookshop locked and closed.
About
Silver Borne is an urban fantasy novel by the American writer Patricia Briggs, published in 2010. It belongs to the series about Mercy Thompson, a mechanic who is also a shapeshifter, and it begins with an errand that goes wrong.
Mercy once borrowed a powerful Fae book out of desperation, and now she wants to give it back. She arrives at the bookshop to find it locked up and closed down, which suggests that the contents matter a great deal to people who would prefer them not to be read.
Her friend Samuel is in trouble as well, struggling with the wolf part of himself in a way that could get him killed, because his own father may declare his life forfeit if it continues. Samuel is her friend and her responsibility, which is why his difficulty becomes her problem. Mercy is left to cover for him while she works out what to do about the book and the Fae who want it back, and the novel keeps both matters pressing on her at once.
