Shadow Dance
Jordan Buchanan goes to a wedding that joins two family dynasties, and a dishevelled professor turns up to warn that the MacKennas and the Buchanans have been feuding since Scotland and that a treasure was stolen.
About
Shadow Dance is a novel by the American writer Julie Garwood, published in 2006.
Jordan is a businesswoman who has built her career on being sensible, and the professor's tale of an ancient quarrel and a stolen treasure is exactly the sort of thing she would normally dismiss. When he is attacked, the questions he raised stop being a joke, and Jordan begins asking about the history of the two families and about a man who has been seen watching the Buchanans. The investigation takes her out of the city and into country where the family's connections are older and more complicated than she realised. Garwood writes the book as romantic suspense, with the romance and the threat arriving together, and she keeps the tone light even when the plot concerns somebody who has been killing for a long time.
It is one of the connected novels the author wrote about the Buchanan family, and it followed two others about the same relatives, their friends and an island the family has never quite left behind.
