Satin and Steel
Laurel Burke comes back to her father's Texas ranch after two years at a boarding school in the east, and the first person she sees at the station is the young rancher she has been thinking about for as long as she has been away.
About
Satin and Steel is a historical romance by the American writer Catherine Hart, published in 1986 and set in Texas.
Laurel Burke has spent two years at a boarding school in the east and comes home to her father's ranch, where the first man she meets is Brandon Prescott, whose family has been engaged in a feud with hers for as long as either of them can remember. The attraction between the two of them is immediate and inconvenient, because Laurel's father is one of the people keeping the quarrel alive, and the couple have to work out how to be together in a place where everybody has already taken a side. Hart wrote western romances in the 1980s, and the plot of this one runs on the same apparatus as many of the books of its period, with the family feud and the isolation of ranch life doing the work.
It is one of several western romances the author published in the same decade, and the ranch, the feud and the small town are the elements they share.
