Skade is sent to inspect a Conjoiner ship that has come home after decades away and finds its founder, Galiana, aboard and no longer alone inside her own head.

About

Redemption Ark is a science fiction novel by the Welsh writer Alastair Reynolds, published in 2002 and set in his Revelation Space universe, where it continues the story of Nevil Clavain.

It opens in the year 2605, when Skade is given the job of investigating a Conjoiner ship that has returned to the Mother Nest from a long expedition. On board she finds Galiana, the founder of the Conjoiners, who asks Skade to kill her; Skade instead puts her into suspended animation in the hope that she can be helped later. What had seized Galiana's ship in deep space and murdered her crew is still inside her mind with her.

Ten years afterwards, Clavain cannot get straight answers about what happened to Galiana, whether she can still be reached, or about Felka, who he believes may be his and Galiana's daughter. The book runs between the Conjoiner worlds and the planets Yellowstone and Resurgam, in two story lines that converge late in the novel, when the thing Galiana met far from home turns out to matter to everyone the story has been following.
