Red, White & Royal Blue
Alex Claremont-Diaz is the son of the American president, Henry is a British prince, and the two of them have disliked each other for years.
About
Casey McQuiston's Red, White & Royal Blue is set in a version of the United States where Ellen Claremont is the first female president and is running for re-election in 2020. Her son, Alex Claremont-Diaz, has long despised Prince Henry, the younger brother of a British groom, and the two of them attend a royal wedding at Buckingham Palace along with Alex's sister June and their friend Nora. A confrontation at the reception turns into a physical altercation, the two of them fall into the wedding cake, and the incident is photographed and widely reported.
To contain the damage, their handlers decide that the remedy is for the two of them to be seen together often and to behave impeccably in public. The arrangement that begins as a piece of international stage management turns into something private, conducted across an ocean and between two families with very strong opinions about appearances. Alex is also working on his mother's re-election campaign, which gives both of them something else to lose.
The novel was originally published on 14 May 2019 by St. Martin's Griffin. McQuiston came up with the idea during the 2016 presidential election, and a film adaptation was released on 11 August 2023.
