About

One Night for Love is a historical romance by the English writer Mary Balogh, published in 1999. It is set in the ballrooms and country estates of Regency England.

Neville Wyatt, the Earl of Kilbourne, is at the altar waiting for the bride he has chosen when a beggar woman comes running down the aisle, and instead of having her removed he declares to everyone present that she is his wife. Lily is the woman he married and loved and then lost on a battlefield in Portugal, and he believed her to be dead; now he tells the cream of society that he will honour the commitment he made to her, regardless of the gulf that lies between their positions. Lily, for her part, says what she wants, which is to start a new life and to have a husband who truly loves her, and she insists on leaving him in order to learn how to meet his world on her own terms. The novel works through everything that has to be settled before the marriage can mean anything to either of them.

Balogh writes historical romances set in Regency England, and this book introduces the family who appear across her Bedwyn novels.
