Jane is twelve and lives by the sea with her mother and her younger brothers and sisters.

About

My One Hundred Adventures is a children's novel by the American writer Polly Horvath, published in 2008. It follows a summer in the life of a twelve-year-old girl and the people who pass through it.

Jane lives in a house by the sea with her mother and her brothers and sisters. There is no father in the household and Jane has reached the age at which she wants to know who he might be, which is how a series of possible fathers begins to arrive in her life. She also wants something larger than her ordinary days, and she sets out looking for it.

The summer supplies what she asked for. Jane takes a ride in a hot-air balloon, gets to know a preacher who combines religion with claims of psychic power, takes on babysitting work, and watches the adults around her behave in ways she cannot always understand. The book is episodic and comic, and what Jane ends up with is less an answer about her father than a working idea of what an adventure actually is.
