My Favorite Bride
Samantha Prendregast arrives at a remote English estate to take charge of six badly behaved girls, and finds the master of the house a harder problem than the children.
About
My Favorite Bride is a historical romance by the American writer Christina Dodd, published in 2002 and part of her Governess Brides series.
Samantha Prendregast takes a position as governess at Devil's Fell, an estate in England where six girls have already driven off their predecessors, and she deals with them by intelligence, bribery and a willingness to outlast them. Their father, Colonel William Gregory, is a widower who has built his life around order and is not prepared for a young woman who argues with him in front of the household. The novel follows the two of them as the arrangement becomes something neither of them intended, with the children as the continuing practical problem in the middle of it. Dodd wrote a series of romances about governesses, and this one is the seventh, with the same interest in a household where everybody's position is unsettled.
The series follows a set of women who take positions in other people's houses, and the same world of estates, employers and children runs through all of the books.
