Mr. Wrong Number

Mr. Wrong Number is a contemporary romance by the American writer Lynn Painter, published on 1 March 2022 by Berkley Books and the author's first novel for adults.

Olivia Marshall is having a bad year. She loses her job, discovers that her boyfriend Eli has been cheating on her, and then sets fire to her apartment building while burning his old letters, which leaves her with nowhere to live. She goes to Omaha to stay with her brother, and on arrival discovers that his lifelong best friend, Colin Beck, is living in the same apartment. Colin has never taken Olivia seriously, and she has always found him attractive and irritating in equal measure. When a stranger's wrong-number message reaches her phone she answers it, and the anonymous conversation that follows becomes the most interesting thing in her life.

Neither of them works out who the other is for some time.
