Mirror Dance
Mark has lived his short life as a copy of Miles Vorkosigan, made to be harvested for the benefit of someone else.
About
Mirror Dance is a science fiction novel by the American writer Lois McMaster Bujold, published in 1994. It won the Hugo and Locus awards, belongs to the Vorkosigan Saga, and was later collected in the omnibus Miles Errant.
Miles Vorkosigan is a Barrayaran lord who has also built himself a mercenary fleet, and his clone Mark was created to serve as a source of replacement organs for a man who wanted an heir. Mark has grown up free of that purpose but not of its consequences, and the family that has taken him in includes a mother who treats him as a son and a world that sees him as a copy of a hero.
The novel begins with Mark taking over part of the Dendarii mercenaries under Miles's name and travelling to Jackson's Whole, a planet where almost anything can be bought, to free the young clones being raised there for their brains. The operation fails, and Miles is drawn into rescuing men, and a brother, who have got themselves into a situation neither of them can fix alone.
