Midnight Sun
Edward Cullen has been seventeen for most of a century and has learned to keep away from human beings, whose blood he can smell.
About
Midnight Sun is a companion novel by the American writer Stephenie Meyer, published in August 2020, retelling the events of her 2005 book Twilight from the perspective of Edward Cullen.
The book's whole advantage is the one the original could not offer: Edward is a telepath who cannot read the mind of the one person he wants to understand, and he is also a century old, which makes him an unreliable narrator in an entirely different way from Bella. Meyer spends a lot of the novel inside his attempts to govern himself, and the reader sees the ordinary small-town surroundings of the first book through somebody for whom they are almost terminally interesting. The novel has its own history: Meyer stopped writing it in 2008 after twelve chapters of an unfinished draft were leaked, and said at the time that she could not finish it in the mood the leak had left her in; she has since said that Twilight was the only book of the series she intended to rewrite from Edward's point of view. The release of the completed novel in 2020 made it one of the best-selling books of that year.
