Me Before You

Jojo Moyes's Me Before You was first published in the United Kingdom on 5 January 2012. Louisa Clark takes a job in the English town where she has spent her whole life, looking after Will Traynor, a former banker and sportsman who was paralysed in a road accident. Will has lost the life he had, and he has no patience for Louisa's cheerfulness, while Louisa needs the wage and has no idea what to do with the man she has been employed to assist.

The relationship between them starts out badly, largely because of Will's bitterness and resentment about his condition, and it becomes more difficult after his ex-girlfriend, Alicia, and his best friend, Rupert, reveal that they are getting married. Under Louisa's care, Will gradually becomes more communicative and more open-minded as the two of them share experiences together. Louisa has a sister, Treena, and over the following weeks she begins taking Will on outings; in their conversations she learns that he has travelled extensively and that his favourite place is a cafe in Paris. What builds between them begins to change both of their plans for the years ahead.

Me Before You was followed by two sequels, After You, released on 24 September 2015 through Pamela Dorman Books, and Still Me, published in January 2018, and it was adapted into a feature film released in 2016.
