Magic Under Glass
Nimira dances for a living in a foreign city, having lost her mother and her father, and she does not hesitate when a mysterious magician offers her a place in his house and a performance to give.
About
Magic Under Glass is a young adult fantasy novel by the American writer Jaclyn Dolamore, published by Bloomsbury Children's Books. It was followed by a sequel, Magic Under Stone, and the two books were later adapted as a stage musical.
Nimira comes from an aristocratic family and now works as a dancer in a country that is not her own, where she supports herself alone. When the magician Hollin Parry invites her to live in his palace on the condition that she sing with a mechanical man, she accepts the offer without asking many questions.
The automaton can only be started with a silver key, and Nimira discovers that what she is performing with is not a machine at all but Erris, a fairy prince who has been shut inside it by a curse. The kingdom of Lorinar is at war with the neighbouring fairy kingdom, and the household Nimira has joined has other secrets in it: Parry's wife Annalie is held in an attic under the control of a sorcerer, and the magic in the house is not being used for anything harmless.
