Loving Mr. Darcy
Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet leave Pemberley to travel through England, visiting friends and relations, and this is the story of the first part of their marriage.
About
Loving Mr. Darcy is a historical romance by the American writer Sharon Lathan, published in 2009 and one of a series of novels about the married life of Darcy and Elizabeth.
The book is a sequel in the strict sense: it takes the characters at the point where Jane Austen left them and follows the journey, the housekeeping and the slow business of two people learning how to be married. Lathan writes the period from the inside, with the carriages, the meals, the letters and the social obligations of the landed gentry given the attention they need, and the novel is more interested in domestic affection than in conflict, which is what a large part of the readership for this kind of sequel wants. The pair's relationship with Elizabeth's family, and with Darcy's, is the source of most of the story's complications, and the book assumes a reader who knows the original well enough to enjoy seeing the small matters that Austen left out. It has been followed by many further volumes about the same household.
