Life and Death
Beaufort Swan leaves Arizona to live with his father in the small, wet town of Forks, Washington, and finds the people at his new school strange and the Cullens stranger still.
About
Life and Death is a novel for young readers by the American writer Stephenie Meyer, published in 2015. It is a retelling of Twilight in which the characters' genders are reversed.
Beau Swan moves from Phoenix to Forks to finish school with a father he barely knows, and on his first day he is surrounded by classmates who want his attention and by the Cullens, a family of unnervingly beautiful people who keep to themselves. Edythe Cullen sits beside him in biology and reacts to him with a hostility that has nothing to do with dislike; she is a vampire, he smells like food, and the rest of the novel is the two of them working out what to do about it. The book follows the first novel's plot closely: the discovery, the family, the baseball game in a thunderstorm, the tracker who hunts him, and the choice about what he wants to become. Meyer wrote it as a companion piece, and the concluding chapters differ from the original in what they decide for the narrator.
It was first published as one half of a flip book that paired it with Twilight, ten years after that novel appeared.
